Children's Center for Therapy and Learning Announces
Name Change to P.G. Chambers School

New name pays tribute to long-time supporter of the organization's mission to discover the unique potential
within every child.

Cedar Knolls, NJ (May 27, 2004) – Children's Center for Therapy and Learning, located at 15 Halko Rd. in Cedar Knolls, officially announces that it is changing its name to P.G. Chambers School. The name change signals an important transition in the organization's history. Over the years, the Children's Center has evolved from a therapeutically based service provider to a regional leader in integrated special education and pediatric therapeutic intervention.

"The new name, P.G. Chambers School, also acknowledges the role that Patricia G. Chambers has played over the many years she has been involved with our organization," said Susan Seamans, executive director. "It is a special tribute to her in recognition of her outstanding efforts, as well as her personal involvement and support."

Each year, P.G. Chambers School provides services for more than 600 children with special needs and their families from a nine-county area of northern New Jersey.  Its programs reach children of all ages, including infants at risk for developmental disabilities; school-age children eligible for special education services; and children diagnosed with cerebral palsy, spina bifida, seizure disorders, autism, communication disorders, and other disabilities.

The name change brings revitalization and recognition to the outstanding work and growth of an organization that serves the community in a unique way. Renaming the organization reflects an ongoing effort to heighten awareness of the successful and comprehensive educational programs and therapeutic services the School continues to provide for local children and families.

"In addition to being personally involved, I would also like to be even more engaged in spreading the word to the individual citizens and organizations of the community to join us in making sure we serve every child who has a need for the excellent work the school does," said Patricia Chambers. "One way of accomplishing this goal will be to hold a gala in early November at the Park Avenue Club in Florham Park to celebrate the organization's 50th anniversary, and to gain additional awareness and support for the School's ever-expanding services and resources."

To complement the on-site services provided at its newly remodeled main campus in Morris County, the Chambers School also offers a wide range of off-site support services that help children with special needs succeed in their community schools and child care centers.

Among P.G. Chambers School's diverse offerings is the Private School Program, which provides special education for preschool and multiply disabled students. The Private School combines individualized educational programs with intensive physical, occupational and speech therapy services to enhance the developmental and learning skills of each child in a setting similar to a public school. The program is truly a unique school environment; able to challenge special needs students' learning and also support their development with a comprehensive related service program.

The School also recently instituted its AfterSchool Program, which offers exciting and educational opportunities for children to broaden their spheres of experience while interacting and building personal relationships on a social level beyond the classroom or therapy session. The AfterSchool Program's club and special-interest groups are open to all children – with or without special needs – as chances to take part in recreational activities when the school day is done, and children are often left to amuse themselves for the afternoon.

"I would like to see the school continue developing new programs that will further our mission to discover the unique potential within every child. We are already becoming more and more involved with local schools to learn how we can provide the kinds of special assistance their students need, and we recently commenced several new programs that are great opportunities for all children in the local communities," said Seamans. "As P.G. Chambers School, the organization will continue to provide the same high-quality programs, striving for excellence and innovation in every facet of its work."
