Acclaimed CNN Correspondent Soledad O’Brien to Speak at Luncheon Charity Series - Popular Lectures Benefit P.G. Chambers School

(CEDAR KNOLLS, NJ) -- Broadcast journalist Soledad O’Brien headlines a special “Menus for the Mind’ luncheon lecture at the Brooklake Country Club in Florham Park on Thursday, May 1, 2008.

Ms. O’Brien is a highly acclaimed television journalist; she is currently the host for CNN Special Investigations Unit, in which she reports on the most important ongoing and breaking news stories for all major CNN programs.

Throughout her career, Ms. O’Brien has leveraged her position as a journalist to raise attention to underreported social issues. She has been on the scene, reported on, and anchored numerous highly acclaimed stories. Ms. O’Brien has gone to Puhket, Thailand, to cover the disaster and aftermath of the tsunami. She has covered the London terrorism attacks in July 2005, and in December 2004. For her efforts in covering the most prominent issues of the day, Ms. O’Brien has earned numerous awards, honors and critical acclaim. In 2007, Ms. O'Brien earned a Gracie Allen Award for her reporting from Cyprus on the Israeli-Hezbollah conflict, as well as her reports from the Gulf Coast after Hurricane Katrina. She has also been honored several times, including winning an Emmy award for her work co-hosting the Discovery Channel's The Know Zone, and most recently, the 2007 NAACP President's Award.

‘Menus for the Mind’ is a popular lecture and luncheon series organized by P.G. Chambers School of Cedar Knolls twice a year that brings speakers from different venues and from all over the country to entertain, educate, and enlighten their audiences. At the upcoming luncheon held at Brooklake Country Club, Florham Park, Ms. O’Brien is expected to discuss issues that are prominent in the news today.

The proceeds from Menus for the Mind benefit the educational and therapeutic programs at P.G. Chambers School, a non-profit school for children with special needs.

Founded in 1954, P.G. Chambers School helps children with disabilities develop confidence in their own abilities and lead fuller, productive lives by providing early intervention, special education, therapy programs and other specialized services for children who are challenged by physical, learning, speech-language and sensory disorders or those who are at risk for disabilities from birth to age 22.The professional staff is comprised of special education teachers, physical and occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, social workers and nurses possessing licenses and certifications in their fields as well as additional training in pediatrics.

This cooperative team of experts works closely with parents in an integrated approach to offer each child personalized attention and treatment. The school is recognized for leadership in the field of special education and therapeutic intervention throughout northern New Jersey.

P.G. Chambers School is funded by government and private grants, fees and tuition, and financial support from individual donors, foundations and corporations. Services are provided to all children without regard to their family’s ability to pay. The School has nonprofit, tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.
