A child's "work" involves the ability to learn and develop during play, school, and family activities. And, P.G. Chambers School's Occupational Therapists help children succeed at their life's work.
Teaching Children Important Life Skills
Our Occupational Therapists address areas such as fine motor incoordination, visual-motor incoordination, visual-perceptual deficits, as well as difficulties in the areas of dressing and feeding. The philosophy that children "learn by doing" is incorporated into every session, and therapists use functional skills, like holding a pencil, using a spoon and zippering a jacket, to mark progress.
Providing a Comprehensive Approach to Learning and Independence
Pediatric Occupational Therapy services include:
- Tasks that facilitate developmental progression of fine motor skills.
- Family, teacher and community based programs to address sensory integrative dysfunction.
- Adaptive equipment to promote independence in dressing, self-feeding and computer access.
- Home and school environmental assessment and recommendations.
Meeting Unique Needs
Specialized services offered by our Occupational Therapy Department include:
- Sensory Integrative Evaluation (SIPT).
- Write Moves, an after school handwriting program.
- Toddlers at Play, a sensory-motor group for children ages 2-3 years.
- Aquatic Occupational Therapy.
- Adaptive Bell Choir.
