We're learning to move and moving to learn.
Physical Therapy
Our predominant initiative for students is not only to learn to move but move to learn.
Students move throughout the day with the support necessary to be successful, achieving independence in accessing the curriculum and navigating the school environment. Because movement enhances learning, our physical therapists design an individual movement plan for each student.
Each plan incorporates the use of adaptive equipment and assistive technology to create and maintain overall orthopedic health and maximize motor skills while increasing overall fitness.
In addition, our physical therapists provide valuable information and training to families across the organization, regarding the management of their children’s physical disabilities, while performing various other skills, including providing:
- functional mobility training,
- balance and gait retraining,
- body mechanics education,
- proper positioning and handling techniques,
- orthotics and Adaptive Equipment Clinics,
- wheelchair safety and management instruction
- power mobility training,
- using assistive technology to access the curriculum,
- neuromuscular re-education,
- home exercise programming,
- assistance with pain relief and management, and
- public school physical therapy evaluations.
The P.G. Chambers School Physical Therapy staff has expertise and certifications in various areas including Pediatric Clinical Specialist (PCS), Assistive Technology Practitioners (ATP), Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT), Orthotics, Clinical Instructor (CI) and Board member service for national professional organizations (NDT).
