On Friday, July 27, 2012, the day of the opening ceremonies of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, the middle-school students at P.G. Chambers celebrated and honored the athletes in a Passing of the Torch ceremony in the school’s Learning Park. Each student took a position on the circular sidewalk, and amidst cheering and “U-S-A” chants, had a turn carrying the golden torch around the courtyard, passing it to the next student along the path. The entire middle school came together, giving one loud cheer once the torch was passed to the final person.

This approach to learning is an important innovative teaching technique at P.G. Chambers School. Incorporating current events and hands-on experience for the students, enriches their understanding of what the events mean, where the events are taking place, and what happens at the events. Studying current events during the summer also prepare the students for researching current events the upcoming semester.
