Walk.Run.Fun PGCS Inaugural 5K
At 9:00am, on a beautiful Saturday morning, over 100 runners, joggers, and walkers, stood behind the starting line and eagerly anticipated their sendoff. PGCS student, LJ, stepped up to the DJ booth and PGCS Executive Director Susan Seamans stood at his side. “Ready, set, go!!” LJ exclaimed, and the runners were off to compete in the PGCS Inaugural 5k Walk.Run.Fun.
With blue skies above them, the participants made their way around the course at Central Park of Morris County with smiles on their faces. The smiles that were not on the course, belonged to the 40 plus volunteers who came and helped make the event run so smoothly. Volunteers from Bayer Healthcare, the youth group from St. Joseph’s Parish in Mendham, NJ, and PGCS staff, among others, did a fantastic job of setting up the main tent area, decorating the park, placing signs around the running course, and serving water to our participants.
At the same time, PGCS students in motorized wheelchairs, adaptive bicycles, and community children and families lined up to start the Children’s Run. Two PGCS staff members coordinated a shortened run at the park that was fully accessible for wheelchairs, so that all could participate in our event. The children made their way around the circled sidewalk as fast as they could to cross the finish line and receive their medal and water bottle, generously donated by Balady Promotions.
After all of the 5K participants had completed the course, everyone gathered under the main tent, enjoyed delicious refreshments, generously donated by the Park Avenue Club, and the winners were announced. After all winners were recognized and given their gold medals, LJ once again sent everyone on their way with “Have a great summer!”.
